Work begins for 3-lane bridge on Hindon canal
Ghaziabad: Construction work on a new three-lane bridge across the Hindon Canal, along CISF-Vasundhara Road in Ghaziabad, commenced on Wednesday. The bridge is being constructed by the UP Irrigation Department at a cost of around Rs 16 crore, which is being provided by the GDA.
According to the irrigation department, the project was conceived in order to beat traffic congestion expected at the point after commissioning of the Hindon Elevated Road.
The GDA is constructing an up and a down ramp from the elevated road at the point for vehicles to ascend or disembark for Indirapuram.
The new bridge will be constructed in between an existing four-lane bridge across the canal, which runs along the CISF-Vasundhara Road, and an old single-lane stone bridge. The new bridge will run parallel to both existing bridges and will allow vehicular movement from the CISF road towards Vasundhara.
“A rotary is also planned on the CISF-Vasundhara road near the ramps to allow vehicles to take a U-turn and go towards Vasundhara once the elevated road project is completed. Construction of the rotary on the main road is expected to congest vehicular movement at the stretch. The new bridge will allow more space for vehicles on the stretch,” assistant engineer of UP Irrigation Department, Ravi Prakash, told TOI.
At present, the Vasundhara police outpost falls directly in alignment with the under-construction new bridge. However, officials said the outpost building is a temporary structure and might be demolished if required after the bridge is constructed.
The detailed project report of the bridge has been prepared by a private consultant appointed by the irrigation department and vetted by IIT-Roorkee. A time period of six months has been set for completion of construction work on the bridge. The bridge is expected to be commissioned by June 2017.
