Residents of violence-hit Chhawani Colony here, under the aegis of Haryana Bachao Sangharsh Samiti, today sought the arrest of those who attacked the colony and compensation to those suffered serious injuries during the Jat reservation stir in February last. They submitted a memorandum in this connection, which was addressed to the Chief Minister, with ADC Narhari Bangar.

Two members of the Saini community were brutally killed and over 20 persons were injured when a mob attacked the people of Chhawani Colony with sharp-edged weapons on February 21 last. The attackers had also set several houses, cars, tractors and two-wheelers on fire.

“The authority has failed not only to arrest the attackers but also to provide compensation to those sustained serious injuries in the attack even as nine months had passed since the incident took place. Many people who lost their property in the mayhem are yet to get compensation for the loss,” said Karamvir Saini, president of the samiti.

Saini said they had served two-week ultimatum on the authority to ensure justice to the violence-hit residents of Chhawani Colony or they would launch a series of demonstrations from Jind on December 20.

“Acute resentment prevails among the colony residents due to the authority’s failure in providing financial aid to those injured during the riots. Even, arms licences are also not being issued to us while the authority had assured us of providing licence to keep arms for self-defence,” said a resident of the colony.

Meanwhile, Chaman Lal, spokesman of the Jhajjar police, said three persons were arrested in connection with the violence and arson in Chhawani Colony here.
