An All-Star cast of musicians will gather on the Carnegie Hall stage on March 6 to celebrate “The Music of Aretha Franklin.” Among the performers slated to pay homage are: Antibalas, Melissa Etheridge, Kenny Loggins, Ann Wilson, Todd Rundgren, Taj Mahal and a number of others.
The latest star-studded show from promoter Michael Dorf will honor the 18-time GRAMMY winner and Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame inductee, with covers of her songs by an initial lineup that also includes Sarah Dash, Glen Hansard, Rhiannon Giddens, Living Colour, Allen Stone and Bettye LaVette, with more artists to be announced soon.
The show marks Dorf’s 14th annual tribute concert at Carnegie Hall — following similar shows in honor of Prince, David Byrne, Paul Simon, Bob Dylan, Neil Young and others — with 100% of the net proceeds earmarked for music education organizations for underprivileged youth such as Young Audiences New York, Little Kids Rock, Church Street School of Music, The Center For Arts Education, TON, Grammy in the Schools and the D’Addario Foundation.
