Anja Rubik, Waris Ahluwalia and More Celebrate the Caviar Kaspia Pop-Up at Spring Place

This article is more than 7 years old.

Despite the rain and chilly climate, a slew of fashion designers, models and style influencers came out to dine at Spring Place, the new members-only club in the heart of Tribeca. It takes something noteworthy to get such a crowd together on a Tuesday during the holiday season, but when the words Caviar Kaspia is on the invitation, best believe that even the most reclusive personalities will make the trek. The celebrated Parisian restaurant created an exclusive pop-up dining experience that brought a sense of joie de vivre to a murky night. And the guests—which included Princess Deena Abdulaziz, Waris Ahluwalia, Diana Picasso, Liya Kebede, Constance Jablonski, Anja Rubik and more—seemed to enjoy every minute of it.

The evening began with a cocktail hour, when flutes of Champagne and a mix of hors d'œuvres were served. Most took this opportunity to take selfies and group pictures, giving the appearance of family gathering—albeit a ritzy one. Adding to this was the casual dress code, with many wearing jeans and leather biker jackets. On paper, having a Caviar Kaspia pop-up with a guest list comprised primarily of socialites is the epitome of stuffy. But this was certainly not the case at the event, or of Spring Place as a whole.

“Spring Place has a relatively broad, open approach to membership but tends to focus on creative leaders, managers and entrepreneurs—any professional working to shape the business of contemporary culture,” said Francesco Costa, the co-founder and CEO of Spring Place. “The local fashion, arts, entertainment and creative business communities are most represented among the Spring Place membership base. The right mindset is important.”

Aside from the elegant dining space—which was temporarily redesigned by scenographer Alexandre de Betak to mirror the interiors of Caviar Kaspia in Paris—Spring Place features a chic communal workspace that “caters to those who appreciate authentic, elegant surroundings, [and] insist on exceptional service and need first-rate office facilities.” There are a few longstanding clubs in New York that promote the same ideology, but as Costa explains, his new endeavor aims to be a sophisticated creative hub where partnership is promoted—at least more than most.

“Our main point of difference is our community which, thanks to the link with our sister company—Spring Studios—is firmly established with deep roots in the international arts and business communities,” he said. “Thanks to our existing and diverse community, Spring Place provides an ideal work setting for inspiring collaboration and co-creation, and acts as a catalyst for members to make connections, build networks and generate valuable new business opportunities.”

This was certainly the case when dinner was served last night. There was no assigned seating, and guests were free to roam from table to table. The menu, which was riffed from the original Caviar Kaspia in Paris, consisted of three courses: a crab salad, followed by a baked potato topped with caviar, and raspberries with crème fraîche. Though each dish was rich and delicious per se, they were not as highfalutin as one might expect. They were luxurious without being garish—a trait that seemingly characterizes Caviar Kaspia, Spring Place, and the soirée.
