LONDON--MTN Group Ltd. (MTN.JO) said Wednesday it is appointing Jens Schulte-Bockum as its chief operating officer with effect from Jan. 16 to succeed Jyoti Desai who is retiring.

Mr. Schulte-Bockum has served as the chief executive of Vodafone (VOD.LN) in Germany between 2012 and 2015, the South African mobile telecommunications company said.

The company has also appointed Oliver Fortuin as executive head of business enterprise and Bernice Samuels as executive of marketing, it said.
