Celtic are awaiting the results of a scan on James Forrest's hamstring after the player went off injured against Manchester City.

Forrest felt tightness in his leg early in the second half of the 1-1 Champions League draw on Tuesday night and manager Brendan Rodgers hopes the Scotland winger caught the problem in time.

Scott Sinclair is still missing for Friday night's Premiership match at Partick Thistle and Forrest's absence could hand Gary Mackay-Steven his first start of the season.

James Forrest came off injured so he is probably the only doubt," Rodgers said. "We will get the scan results for that later.

"He has been brilliant all season, scoring goals, creating goals and, very importantly, working hard tactically for the team right the way through the season.

"Of course, if he's unavailable for us for a little period of time it will be a miss. But just like Scotty being out, it offers an opportunity for someone else. You see Gary Mackay-Steven coming on last night, he was playing very, very well."

Sinclair has missed three games with a hamstring injury and Rodgers has pinpointed the visit of Dundee on 17 December as his likely comeback date.

"He is coming along very well," Rodgers said. "It obviously won't be this weekend but we are very hopeful that, probably for the Dundee game, he might not be too far away."

Despite failing to secure European football beyond Christmas, Rodgers believes Celtic can hold their heads high after being drawn in the Champions League's toughest group.

Barcelona, Manchester City and Borussia Monchengladbach provided the opposition for the Hoops, who took their tally for the section to three points with Tuesday's stalemate at the Etihad.

Speaking to the assembled media ahead of Friday's trip to Partick Thistle, he said: "When I look back to when I first came in and that first qualifier in Gibraltar (against Lincoln Red Imps), that was not that long ago.

"And when you consider the performances we've had - in particular away to Monchengladbach and Manchester City - I think you have seen the real growth in the team in terms of the quality of their football, how composed they are and the belief they have at this level.

"That is very important and also the quality of their game both technically and tactically so this year's experience was always going to be the key component for us.

"It was about, could we learn? Could we improve? Could we be better? And then once you get the taste of it then it really motivates you and inspires you to go on.

"We are obviously disappointed to not have European football after Christmas but over the course of the six games then I think it's fair to say we represented Celtic, and hopefully Scottish football, as well as we could and we'll look to continue to improve."
