Ericsson has announced that 59 roles in its Dublin office will be cut after a cost and efficiency programme undertaken by the company.

The company said that a voluntary severance scheme will be put in place and opportunities for redeployment will be made available where possible.

Earlier this year, the Ericsson group announced plans to make cost savings of 9 billion crowns by 2017 compared with 2014 levels.  

"We believe that these changes will enable us to be more competitive, deliver enhanced value to our clients, better respond to opportunities and grow our business more efficiently in the future," the company stated.

The company said it will have "an open and constructive dialogue" with all of its staff.

Ericsson has an Irish workforce of about 1,500 between its operations in Dublin and Athlone.

Earlier this year, the Ericsson group announced plans to make cost savings of 9 billion crowns by 2017 compared with 2014 levels.  

In October, the company said it would cut 3,000 jobs in Sweden, including positions in production, research and development.
