The OBS warns against SMS scam

The Ombudsman for Banking Services (OBS) warned the public against an ongoing SMS scam purported to be from them.

The scam SMS is sent to individuals falsely notifying them that their complaints have been successful and that funds have been paid on their behalf to the ombudsman’s office. The messages further add that the individual will be notified as to when and where to collect their money. The public has been warned to not respond to these messages, as it is said to be a method of gleaning your personal information such as bank account details.

The OBS added that it is not policy or protocol to send an SMS notifying consumers of such activity and that recipients should ignore these SMSes.

Should you receive such a message the OBS advised that you contact their offices 011 712 1800 or 0860 800 900. You can also fax -011 483 3212 or send an email toinfo@obssa.co.za
