Pak stalls may not be favourite this year at Punjab International Trade Expo
AMRITSAR: This year the Pakistani stalls may not be the favourites among visitors during five day 11th edition of Punjab International Trade Expo (PITEX) beginning from December 8 even as more than four dozen Pak exhibitors have already registered their arrival.
"No, there can’t be a midway, on one side Pakistan is sponsoring terror outfits to carry out strikes in India and killing our soldiers on border and on other side we welcome them and buy their products, it is not acceptable', said thirty five years old Rachana Singh, who had been regular at Pak stalls to purchase ladies suits for past five years.

A teacher by procession Rachna said "This is not mine alone, but a general feeling among common Indians who are pained to see their soldiers dying in deceitful war unleashed by Pakistan."
However, regional director, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry Parveen Rathi is of view that border skirmishes, even armed, and trade were two different things and shouldn’t be clubbed. He informed that as many as 54 exhibitors from Pakistan had already registered with them.
Talking to TOI on Wednesday , Rathi said, "No I don’t think that border issue will overshadow PITEX, eventually it is the economy which brings peace and prosperity". He said even in past there had been border conflicts and despite that trade and other similar activities remained continued. "Trade will normalize the relations between two nations and bring them closer", he opined.
Meanwhile he informed that for the first time as many as six states of India would be participating in the PITEX. "They are going to showcase some of their products but I am hopeful that from next year they would participate with full capacity and we will also have separate pavilions for them."

Talking about another first in the PITEX, Rathi informed that for the first time from ministry of development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) would be participating in the event.
"We will showcase traditional handicrafts, embroideries, textiles, and electronic equipment of various countries to promote mutual understanding and cooperation on the trade front” he said.
Reverse Buyer Seller Meet (RBSM) of SAARC nations will be one of the biggest attractions of the event and will immensely help in enhancing the trade ties between the member nations.
