Micromax launches 2 Vdeo phones which come with Reliance Jio SIM and Google Duo video calling app
Micromax Vdeo 1 and Micromax Vdeo 2

Micromax had in the past partnered with Google for their Google Android One experiment and launched a cheap, budget phone in the country. The desi smartphone maker is now trying to win over the Indian audiences again by launching smartphones that come with special features in the budget range. Micromax, the Indian brand, has so far focused in giving the best features in budget devices but then, they did not really have any devices that were video specific or speed specific in terms of data so far. With Micromax Vdeo 1 and Micromax Vdeo 2, the devices come with special video features and also has a tie up with Reliance Jio, the SIM card that is currently ruling our hearts. As the smartphone is focused on video and video calling, it makes sense to tie up with a 4G brand that promises free calling and free services atleast for the next 3 months, till 31st March 2017.

But then, while getting the Reliance Jio SIM card bundled with the device means that you don’t really have to wait in queues or have the hassle of waiting to get your SIM, it is not what we look for in a device. When the device is a video calling device, clearly, as the name itself is Vdeo, the priority is on the display, the camera quality as well as the speed. Considering the phone comes bundled with a 4G SIM card and runs at 4G speeds, the connectivity speed is not really an issue. But then, what about the device speed or the processor? Micromax Vdeo 1 and Vdeo 2 both come with strong processors for the price range. Micromax Vdeo 1 and Micromax Vdeo 2, both the phones are in the entry-level segment in the country and give tough competition to the budget 4G devices present in the segment. Both the Micromax Vdeo 1 and Micromax Vdeo 2 are priced in the below Rs 5000 mark in the country.

Now, coming to the features and specifications of Micromax Vdeo 1 and Micromax Vdeo 2, the smartphones are both slightly similar in specifications. While Micromax Vdeo 1 is the basic version, Micromax Vdeo 2 is the slightly more expensive and also an advanced version. Let’s take a look at the features and specifications of the more budget and basic Micromax Vdeo 1 first. Micromax Vdeo 1 comes with a 4-inch WVGA display. The phone runs Android Marshmallow, one of the more popular Android versions and is one of the very few smartphones in the sub-5k segment to feature android Marshamallow. Under the hood, Micromax Vdeo 1 runs a 1.3 Ghz quad-core processor and 1 GB RAM. The internal memory is 8 GB. There’s no word on the memory card slot and expansion for now. The phone comes with a 5MP rear end snapper and a 2MP front camera. Micromax Vdeo 1 comes with a 1600 mAh battery. The phone is priced at Rs 4440 in India.  Aircel launches Rs 148 unlimited internet and calling pack with a validity of 90 days, takes on Reliance Jio

Coming to the larger and the bigger Micromax Vdeo 2, the smartphone comes with the same hardware as the Micromax Vdeo 1. But then, there are certain aspects that are different. The smartphone comes in an all-metal body, which lends the basic phone a premium look. There’s no home button on both the devices and they come in the rose-gold colour variant. Just like Micromax Vdeo 1, Micromax Vdeo 2 also runs Android Marshmallow. The smartphone comes with a 4.5 inches WVGA display and under the hood, runs the same 1.3 Ghz quad-core processor. The internal memory is also the same and Micromax Vdeo 2 comes with 8 GB internal memory with 1 GB RAM. The camera is a 5 MP shooter at the back and a 2 MP selfie snapper at the front. The battery is also beefed up and Micromax Vdeo 2 comes with a 1800 mAh battery. The phone, with just a larger display and battery but with the same internals is priced slightly higher than Micromax Vdeo 1 and comes for Rs 4990 in India. Motorola Moto X 2017 images leaked, to ditch the modular phone design

Talking at the launch of the smartphones, Mr. Shubhajit Sen, Chief Marketing Officer, Micromax Informatics said, “At Micromax we thrive on our understanding of the Indian consumer, consistently deriving insights and delivering innovative products to the market. 2016 has seen a marked slowdown in the long term trend of Feature Phones users shifting to Smart Phones. Two barriers we identified were perceived high cost of data and a lack of a differentiated mass-use case. With the launch of the Vdeo range we have focused on these issues. We believe Video calling that is as simple as making a voice call, in a stable environment, will be a strong use case especially in smaller towns. This feature, coupled with free internet connectivity with the pre-bundled Reliance Jio SIM is a compelling proposition that will accelerate the switch from feature phones to Smartphones. Our leadership position and strong brand equity has allowed Micromax, for the first time in the industry, to bring together key players in the eco-system to deliver a complete solution for our consumers. Of course, the Vdeo range is fully loaded with best-in- class features for an entry level Smartphone – including 4G VoLTE, Android Marshmallow, Quad core processors, great battery performance and housed in a premium and stylish metal body. We are extremely proud that we have managed to deliver this bundle of features in phones priced under Rs 5000. ”
