Raees and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil had landed themselves in trouble after the Raj Thackeray-led MNS called for a ban of all films featuring Pakistani actors post the Uri attack. Karan Johar faced maximum heat as the filmmaker ran from pillar to post while trying to ensure the quick release of his film. After multiple negotiations, MNS finally relented after a close door meeting between the warring parties with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis playing the peacemaker.

Raj Thackeray called for a truce after declaring that every filmmaker who has worked with Pakistani actors should pay a sum of Rs 5 crore to Army welfare fund by way of penance. Farhan Akhtar, one of the co-producers of Raees, had strongly criticised Raj Thackeray’s offer in the past.
