According to police, Abdul Razzaque Mohammed Sayed, Mohammed Aarif Abdul Razzaque Sayed, Rukhsana Abdul Razzaque Sayed and Noorjahan Mohammed Sayed, claim to be residents of Jubilee Court, Bandra (West). Three of them had obtained PAN cards from Ajmer, and migrated to Mumbai in September.

A Rs 2 lakh crore income declaration was made in the family's name under the IDS. But the government has rejected the claim and has stated that it will conduct investigations into the matter.

Senior I-T officials who did not wish to be named admitted that people in cities across the country were coming forward to say that their PAN card and other details had been misused to make declarations under the IDS in their names.

Though the official refused to comment on the declaration purportedly made by the Sayed family, other sources in the department said they were closely examining the likelihood of the family's details having been been misused by someone.

There was no clarity on Tuesday on whether the I-T department had managed to trace the family, which has not been found at the address submitted in the declaration.

Flat number 4 in the Jubilee Court society on Linking Road, cited as the address by the Sayeds, is located on the building's ground floor. The nameplate on the flat's door reads R R Vaid. However, the house has been locked for many years, local residents said.

Under the IDS, the person making the declaration had to fill a form offline or online after providing his/her name, address, PAN number, contact number and valuables he/she may want to declare.

The applicant was supposed to submit the digitally signed form online. He/she also had the option of signing a physical copy of the form and submitting it to IT officials.
