The driver of a Karnataka Administrative Service Officer in a suicide letter had claimed that state’s mining baron and ex- BJP leader G Janardhana Reddy had converted  Rs100 cr black money into white. In the letter before taking the extreme step, he also alleged that the mining baron had also paid nearly 20 percent commission to the senior government officer.

Days after Reddy had spent nearly Rs 500 crore for his daughter’s wedding, along with him, is in-laws and event managers who were hired for the wedding, are also under I-T scanner, a report in ‘The Times Of India’ had said. A notice was slapped on Reddy, in which the department had asked for details of the expenses during the wedding. Also, the I-T department had reportedly asked the source of income for Reddy’s hefty attire during the wedding.

As per the report, tax officials also inspected event managers at several locations in Bengaluru and Hyderabad. Reddy’s daughter’s five-day wedding had grabbed headlines for its display of wealth. The marriage saw LCD-screen invitation cards, large wedding venue, and a list of at least 50,000 guests. The marriage was solemnised at a time when NDA Government banned use of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes, declaring them invalid tenders. Janardhana Reddy was arrested in 2012 in illegal mining cases. Since his release on bail in 2015, he was busy planning his daughter’s marriage that took place at the Palace Grounds in Bengaluru last month.
