Heavy traffic jams were witnessed on Tuesday with the traffic police closing many roads as several followers of Babasaheb Ambedkarconverged at Chaityabhoomi in Dadar on the occasion of Mahaparinirvan Diwas.

MUMBAI: Heavy traffic jams were witnessed on Tuesday with the traffic police closing many roads as several followers of Babasaheb Ambedkarconverged at Chaityabhoomi in Dadar on the occasion of Mahaparinirvan Diwas. Lakhs of followers from across the state paid their respects to Dr Ambedkar on his 60th death anniversary.
Traffic congestion on main roads from Prabhadevi to Bandra led to chaos as stranded motorists took to social media to complain about the situation.
Almost all the roads leading to Shivaji Park had been closed for traffic from Monday evening.
Joint commissioner of police (traffic) Milind Bharambe, said there was heavy traffic jam but no untoward incident.
Shivaji Park resident Sunil Tiwari said Tilak Bridge at Dadar witnessed heavy jam in the morning. "It took me 40 minutes to reach Dadar TT from Plaza cinema. Traffic was crawling," said Tiwari. Sandhya Shrimali of Mahim said there were disruptions on LJ road that stretches from Shivaji Park to Mahim.
