Maruti Suzuki is speculating to launch a bigger premium SUV which will be slotted above the Vitara Brezza.
Maruti Suzuki's sub-compact SUV, the Vitara Brezza has been a great success since its launch in March 2016. The company has received over 1.72 lakh bookings for the Vitara Brezza and it sells around 10,000 units per month.
Riding on the success of the Brezza, Maruti Suzuki India Chairman, RC Bhargava stated that the company will soon launch a bigger premium SUV which will be slotted above the Vitara Brezza.
The new SUV to be launched is expected to be the 2016 Suzuki Vitara sold in the European and other international markets. Bhargava said, "Our product portfolio will cover these segments."
He added, "Today we have covered only the compact SUVs, but as we along, we will also move with an SUV which is higher that the compact SUV. I don't know when exactly it is scheduled for sale, but not too far in the future."
The globally sold Suzuki Vitara is available in both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol engines include a 1.6-litre VVT engine producing 120bhp and the Vitara Sport which draws power from a 1.4-litre turbocharged BoosterJet engine pumping out 138bhp.
The diesel variant of the Vitara is powered by a 1.6-litre DDiS diesel engine which churns out 120bhp of power. The transmission options include five-speed and six-speed manual gearbox and an optional six-speed automatic transmission.
