CHANDIGARH: A 25-year-old woman and her daughter, 4, were allegedly burned to death by their family members in Julana town of Jind district in Haryana. Their charred dead bodies were found in the verandah of their house on Tuesday morning, with empty kerosene oil cans lying near them.
Police registered a dowry case against nine members of the family, after Ritu’s father Mahinder Singh complained against them, including his son-in-law.
Besides Ritu’s husband Navin Kumar, police have booked his brother Hardeep Singh and wife Neelam, his three sisters and their husbands. However, no arrests have been made in the case and police are conducting raids
In his complaint, Mahinder told police that Ritu was married to Navin in February 2011 and was ever since tortured for not meeting her in-laws’ demand for Rs 2 lakh in cash and a car in dowry.
ASI Ghanshyam Dass said they were informed about the crime by the victims’ neighbours and had to break open the door to gain access to the house. He said they informed forensic experts and Ritu’s family. Once Ritu’s father reached the crime scene, the bodies were taken to Jind hospital for the autopsy.
By the filing of report, police was conducting raids to arrest Navin and other accused.
