Fifteen US defense contractors received nearly two thirds of a billion dollars in contracts to modernize US Air Force bases in 42 states including high tech infrastructure over the next five years, the Department of Defense said in a press release on Tuesday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The Pentagon said that contractors will compete for design, construction, and engineering activities to design and construct new facilities and infrastructure, repair and renovate or restore existing facilities and infrastructure.

The combined value of the contracts for the bases located across the east and central regions of the United States came to $630 million, the release noted.

The companies include AHTNA-CDM Smith, Akima Construction Services, Bhate Environmental, Bristol General Contractors, Custom Mechanical Systems (CMS), Edifice Solutions, Herman-JCG, JSR-ECC, Meltech, MOWA-Barlovento, Portico Services and Structural Associates, the Defense Department said.

The other companies were HHI Corporation, HJD Capital Electric and Roundhouse PBN, the release added.
