With Ajay Devgn starrer Baadshaho and Ayushmann Khurrana starrer Meri Pyaari Bindu headed for a clash at the box-office on May 12, 2017, expect Ajay Devgn Ffilms and Yash Raj Films to lock horns again. The last clash between the two production houses was way back in 2012 on Diwali, when AJ’s Son of Sardaar went up against Jab Tak Hai Jaan. This time, Devgn gets pitted against the Ayushmann  and Parineeti Chopra-starrer.

Pehle kaun?

“In all fairness though, Ajay’s Baadshaho had locked May 12 first,” informs our trade source, “At that time, no other film was slated for release and the date was up for grabs. Ajay spotted it first and announced Baadshaho. Meri Pyaar Bindu’s release on the same date was announced only recently. And that’s surprising because they could have picked any other date. As a matter of fact, many Fridays are still available.”

Nothing special

There is nothing special about May 12 as a date for which Bollywood should be queuing up to occupy a slot. “There is no festival season, no holiday, no long weekend on the way. As a matter of fact, it is not a very good date either since IPL 2017 ends on May 21. May 12 is when IPL would have peaked. Wonder why anyone would even want to arrive during this time, leave aside a clash during this very season,” says a trade expert.

Current status

“While MPB has already wrapped, the shooting of Baadshaho is currently underway at Jodhpur. The film is ultra-hot since it marks the coming together of Ajay Devgn, director Milan Luthria and Emraan Hashmi after Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai. Moreover, it also has Vidyut Jammwal, Ileana D’Cruz and Esha Gupta, making it a multi-starrer,” our source adds.

“Chances are near to nil that AJ would rethink about another release date,” believes the source.

PEHLE BHI...

“In fact, AJ recently moved away from a clash quite graciously when he realised that Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar’s Robot 2.0 had opted for a Diwali 2017 arrival. Within hours of the announcement, he decided to advance Golmaal 4 by a couple of weeks,” informs a source.
