He was detained by authorities at the time of the shooting, but later released as the investigation continued.

"We conducted over 160 interviews in this case," Jefferson Parish sheriff Newell Normand said in a press conference Tuesday morning. "We identified 260 folks that we had an interest in talking to ... we talked to over 70 business owners in an attempt to retrieve video."

"All of this since Thursday afternoon through yesterday at approximately 5 p.m. wherein ... we collectively came together and decided that we were prepared to draft an arrest warrant for the arrest of Mr. Gasser."

McKnight, 28, emerged as a star in his three seasons with the Trojans, rushing for 1,014 yards and eight touchdowns as a senior in 2009.

The former fourth-round pick (112th overall) of the New York Jets in the 2010 draft played four NFL seasons from 2010-2014.
