VADODARA: A police team that had intercepted a jeep carrying Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) in Limdi taluka of Dahod was attacked by a mob led by a bootlegger. The mob pelted stones and even fired a shot at the team members.
The incident took place on Monday night at the Dholakhakhra village when the police was on a watch after receiving information regarding movement of IMFL.
A police team spotted the vehicle and stopped it, but a mob reached the spot and started pelting stones on the police.

The mob was led by a bootlegger Shailesh Baria, who was allegedly peddling the seized IMFL worth around Rs two lakh. “The bootlegger has offences registered against him in the past too. The mob was trying to either take away the jeep or burn it. They took advantage of the darkness at the spot to attack the policemen,” said Limdi police sub-inspector P H Vasava. Two policemen were injured in the stone pelting by the mob.
Reinforcements were called from the Limdi police station as well as other units. With police presence at the spot increasing, the mob escaped from there. But before leaving, the mob of around 50 persons charred the motorcycle of a police jawan parked on the road.
Vasava said that the police had identified 18 members of the mob and was in the process of nabbing them. Two separate offences – one for bootlegging and another for the attack on police – were registered at the Limdi police station.
