Rajkot: Controversial builder Kamlesh Ramani, who was externed from four districts few days ago, was arrested from Somnath on Monday night in connection with a forgery case that dates back to 16 years.
Police said that Ramani, 43, had forged his birth certificate to get a liquor permit in 2000. He had mentioned his birth year as 1965 instead of 1973. Before a year or so, the police had received an anonymous application informing about Ramani’s forgery.
They started investigation and found that Ramani had resorted to forgery for liquor permit.
Hardevsinh Gohil, police sub-inspector, prohibition and excise department, lodged a complaint with the Detection of Crime Branch police against Ramani on Monday night for forgery and criminal conspiracy among others.
Ramani was produced in the court which remanded him to police custody for three days on Tuesday. Police said they want to probe how he forged the birth certificate and who helped him.
Earlier, on December 2, the Rajkot city had issued orders prohibiting Ramani from entering Rajkot, Morbi, Surendranagar and Jamnagar districts for two years.
Ramani is already facing two cases of prohibition, one of rape and one case of assault.
He was earlier arrested in connection with a rape case and was jailed for a few months. He is currently out on bail.
