‘Drivers of buses owned by Badals must take dope test’

A case was registered against driver Mandeep alias Vijay of Bhunga in Hoshiarpur for rash driving.

A day after two motorcycle riders were killed after being hit by a bus of Rajdhani Transport, a company taken over by Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal’s family recently, the families of the deceased demanded that a dope test of the drivers of the company’s buses be conducted and a government job be given to the next of kin of the deceased.

The accident took place on Monday. Both the motorcycle riders, Mangat Ram (46) and Balbir Singh (55) of Rauwal and Bhalana villages respectively, died on the spot. The bus also turned turtle due to high speed, but the driver managed to flee.

Mangat Ram worked with Balbir Singh, a small farmer. Both had come to Hariana town to purchase some material. The bus was going from Pathankot to Hoshiarpur.

“We demanded a job either to the daughter or wife of Mangat Ram who was working as plumber and was the only earning member of the family. Now, his family has no source of income,” said Dharamveer, an ex-serviceman and brother of Mangat Ram.

“They (drivers of buses owned by Badals) should be tested for dope. Every other day, drivers of these buses are hitting some vehicle. This was the fifth case in Hoshiarpur only in the past few months,” said another family member.

Both Mangat and Balbir has three children each.

Festive offer

Mangat’s daughter Jassi Sharma completed her 10+2 last year and his two sons are studying in class 5th and class 9th. His wife Rachna Rani was inconsolable as family was very weak economically. Mangat’s cremation will take place on Wednesday, after his brother reaches the village from Dubai.

Balbir too has a daughter and two sons, all unemployed.
