Focus on per hectare production, sugarcane farmers urged

Harvinder Kalyan, HAFED chairman, today exhorted farmers to focus on increasing the per hectare production of sugarcane by involving research and quality farming.

He said this while chairing a function held here on the 41st crushing session of the Karnal sugar mill.

Kalyan said there was a need to increase per hectare production of sugarcane, so that farmers could get more profit. He said efforts were being made for the modernisation of the mill. He lauded the efforts of the management and contribution of the farmers due to which it had secured first and second position for the 17th time at the national platform for its quality and capacity.

Mandeep Brar, DC; Yogesh Kumar, SDM, and Varsha Khangwal, sugar mill MD, were also present on the occasion.

He asked farmers to opt for other crops along with sowing sugarcane for more profit.

The MD said the mill had proposed to crush around 32 lakh quintal of sugarcane this season, while it had crushed 25.5 lakh quintal in the previous crushing season.

The government has fixed Rs 310 per quintal for the early, Rs 305 for the mid and Rs 300 for the late and general varieties of sugarcane.
