Kurukshetra, December 6

The foundation stone of the Krishna Circuit was laid at Purushottampura Bagh, Brahma Sarovar premises, by Haryana Governor and Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar here today.

President Pranab Mukherjee was scheduled to chair the ceremonial project of the Central government. But due to the demise of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, the President called off the Kurukshetra visit.

Mukherjee was also scheduled to attend several functions on the inaugural day of cultural evenings. However, in view of national mourning in honour of the late leader, the Haryana Government cancelled the cultural programme scheduled for the evening. Various celebratory and cultural functions will commence as per scheduled from tomorrow onwards.

Several other state ministers and RSS leaders were present on the occasion.

Khattar said the Rs 97-crore Krishna Circuit project was funded by the Union Government for the development of four ancient pilgrim sites in the city.
