In its first major event in Majha after the departure of its biggest face from the region, Sucha Singh Chhotepur, Aam Adami Party (AAP) national convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will address ‘Majha Fathe’ rally in grain market of Majitha, the native village of Punjab minister Bikram Singh Majitha, on December 14.

In the same rally, the party is also expected to announce its candidate against Bikram Singh Majithia, who has filed defamation case against Kejriwal and other top leaders of party.

Party’s organisational structure had collapsed in region as most of its office-bearers in Majha had resigned along with Chhotepur in September-end.

The party is still looking after Majha from Delhi and its newly appointed Amritsar zonal convener Sarabjot Singh is not properly aware about the party plans for ‘Majha Fathe’ rally. “Delhi chief minister is coming for ‘Majha Fathe’ rally on December 14. It is, however, yet not confirmed if it will be only about Majitha or Amritsar zone. The Delhi leadership has been planning for it,” said Sarabjot Singh.

AAP has not been able to mobalise big crowd in region for any event after the release of its youth manifesto in Amritsar on July 3, in which youth from all the state had participated. Party will also hold public meetings in Majha to mobilise the crowd for the December 14 rally.

Festive offer

“This rally is kind of litmus test for the party in Majha. We had good crowd during release for the youth manifesto, but the crowd then had come from Malwa and Doaba. We will not have luxury to fetch crowd from other parts of state as rally is named ‘Majha Fathe’. Party is not left with much time to focus on the Majha and it is high time to announce its candidate against Bikram Singh Majithia to set the tone for the elections in region,” said a party leader from Amritsar.

Sources said though party volunteers has been expecting its state convener Gurpreet Singh Ghuggi Wraich to contest the election against Majithia, he, however, is not interested. The party has also been considering names of Himmat Singh Shergill, H S Phulka and Harjot Bains to contest from Majithia and other constituencies.
