Meritorious students honoured at SBS Institute

DEHRADUN: The Sardar Bhagwan Singh Post Graduate Institute of Biomedical Sciences and Research celebrated its 22nd annual day here yesterday.

The Sardar Bhagwan Singh Post Graduate Institute of Biomedical Sciences and Research celebrated its 22nd annual day here yesterday.

Chief Minister Harish Rawat inaugurated the programme along with Harinder Pal Kaur, wife of late founder director, chairman SP Singh, managing secretary Gaurav Deep Singh and director Prof FC Garg. Rawat congratulated students for their achievements.

The function started with the presentation of the annual report of the institute by Prof FC Garg. The annual magazine— Endeavour Vol. XVI—was also released by the Chief Minister. The magazine includes various articles in Hindi and English contributed by both faculty and students.

Later, academic awards and prizes were presented. As many as 18 gold and 19 silver medals were awarded for academic excellence. Certificates were given to 300 meritorious students of the first year. Certificates of excellence and appreciation for extra-curricular activities were also given for students’ overall achievements in various fields.

Amandeep Singh received the certificate of excellence for dramatics and Kartik Chawla for debating while Trivija Gupta, Nirdosh, Sudhanshu Rai, Amit Singh Jakhi and Ajay Chand Ramola were awarded certificate of appreciation. Manisha Malhotra, Poooja Larwal, Kajal Bankoti, Deepali and Rupali were awarded certificate of appreciation for NCC. A total of 20 awards were given to students for their excellence in creative writing skills in poems, story writing and essay writing in both Hindi and English.

The cultural programme began with the recital of Saraswati Vandana by the institute choir, led by Rupam Roy and Neha Bora. A drama themed ‘Navras’ was presented by the team led by Amandeep Singh and Shubham. Bhangra stole the show. A theme dance on “five elements” was also presented.
