YEREVAN. – Novara midfielder Gennaro Armeno has both Armenian last name (last name Armeno in Italian means “Armenian”) and looks like Armenian.
The Armenian News-NEWS.am correspondent talked to the player trying to find out whether he has Armenian roots.
“It is very interesting but although my grandparents told me that our last name has Turkish origin, I can't confirm that I have Armenian origin. Now I am very interested and will make a research. So far I admit that although I'm curious I don't know many things, but will study a little bit of history. Now I'm interested,” he said.
Asked whether he may join Armenia national team one day, if it turns out he really has Armenian roots, the player said: “National team is the dream of all boys that play football: I hope that one day I will wear Italian national team's jersey but one never knows”.
