Interesting times are ahead in the race to be the leader of the ANC.
I wonder who will survive the upcoming NEC when cards are placed on the table. Already Cyril Ramaposa has made a play when he lambasted the ANC for being arrogant, greedy and set on self-preservation rather than serving the public. Depending on who survives, that may just have been his downfall speech as the greedy group will wish to retain somebody who will protect their interests.
If, however, there is a purge of the greedy state capture group, that same speech may just be his ticket to the presidency.
I am not sure if the ANC is ready for a woman as their leader yet and that may have a huge impact on where this is going to lead to.
Suffice to say, it is going to be a very dirty race to the top and I, for one, think that in the coming months we will be seeing more dirty laundry being aired and more direct attacks on the current leadership.
The gloves are now off and it seems that criticism of the government is now an open topic even in the inner circle of the ANC.One can only hope that sanity will prevail and that the ANC will understand that at the current rate they are losing political ground. They are sitting on a very broken, sinking ship, and will need a strong captain to get them to safer waters.
Who that captain will be is not at all clear at the moment as division is so strong that no clear, strong leader is sure of any position.
This will be a battle like none before and will be watched by everyone, except, I think, the rest of the world as I do not think that South Africa is of much importance to the world at large. We have been our own worst enemy in alienating ourselves from the international stage by being inept at our handling of our economy and our policies in general. For the sake of South Africa, one hopes that sanity will prevail.
