RAIPUR: Aman Prakash and Kelmit Lepcha won the Indian round event of the 15th state-level sub-junior archery championship held at Raipur stadium. First-time archers of Raipur won more medals as compared to their counterparts from other states in the championship conducted by Chhattisgarh Archery Association. The competition concluded on Sunday.
Sports Authority of India (SAI) archers of Chhattisgarh were among the more than 45 contestants who participated in the meet that witnessed contests in Indian (Boys and Girls), Recurve and Compound categories.
In Indian (Boys) Aman Prakash Dhruve (Bilaspur) secured the first position with 691points while SAI's Kelmit Lepcha bagged top position in Indian (Girls) with 679 points. In Recurve, Bharat Yadav from SAI was the winner with 312 points while Shubham Das (Raipur) won the Compound round with 264 points.
Talking to TOI, Chhattisgarh Archery Association's secretary Kailash Murarka said, "The first four position holders in all the categories will be selected for upcoming sub-junior national archery championship." Despite being a traditional sport of Chhattisgarh, archery is yet to get its due recognition in the state because CM Raman Singh's 2014 announcement to set up an archery academy in Raipur and Kondagaon of Bastar is yet to take concrete shape.
