Soon after the news of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa’s demise, condolences started pouring in on Twitter, not just from the political bandwidth, but also the film industries in Mumbai as well as Chennai.

Shah Rukh Khan tweeted “Sad to hear of the passing away of Jayalalithaaji…May her soul rest in peace.”

Amitabh Bachchan wrote two tweets following the demise of Amma and wrote, “Deeply grieved at the passing of Jayalalita ji .. a strong woman ..” His second tweet read, “Jayalalitha ji the only CM of a State that celebrated 100 years of Indian Cinema .. from all regions .. most admirable !”

Actress and politician Hema Malini who worked in the Tamil film industry for a short while wrote a two-part tweet stating, “V upset to hear abt Jayalalitha's passing away. She was strong,had tremendous will power & carved a special niche for herself in politics.”

“Tamil Nadu admired & adored her as did people all over India. She was a much respected leader, who held her own in a world of men. RIP Jaya!” Hema wrote.

Actor Siddharth, well-known for his role in Rang De Basanti said in a tweet, “It is the end of an era! Arguably the most unparalleled daughter of Tamil Nadu... #RIP #PuratchiThalaivi Honbl. Chief Minister #Jayalalithaa.”

Shruti Hassan, actor and daughter of Kamal Hassan tweeted, “TN loses one of its greatest leaders and bravest women- deeply saddened by this great loss - words cannot express.”

Actor Dhanush, son-in-law of superstar Rajnikanth who debuted in Bollywood alongside Sonam Kapoor in Raanjhanaa tweeted, “#RIPAmma. The end of THE most inspirational era of Tamilnadu Politics. You leave behind a vast vacuum. #IronLady. #Shattered #empty #darkday.” Rajnikanth too expressed his condolences on Twitter.
