Saradha scam: BJP gets back at Mamata
Kolkata: Central investigating agencies have woken up to the multi-crore Saradha Ponzi scam probe months after it appeared to have been put on the backburner. Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials brought the probe to the fore once again on Monday by conducting a search at Saradha CEO and prime accused Sudipta Sen’s residence. The agency is all set to send fresh notices to some more while CBI has summoned some for questioning.
The flurry of activities comes only after the Centre asked for a progress report of the investigation in which a Trinamool minister and party Rajya Sabha MP have already been granted bail.
The actions strengthen Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee’s allegation that the Centre would be using its investigating arms against those who have been raising the pitch against Narendra Modi government’s demonetisation exercise. The Saradha inquiry lost its momentum after Modi built bridges with Banerjee and got her party’s support in passing a number of crucial Bills in Parliament and also an in-principle support to the GST till relations soured in the post-demonetisation phase.
CBI officials have submitted a presentation on Saradha probe to the top brass days after Rakesh Asthana took over as CBI’s interim chief. So far, four TMC leaders have been arrested.
