Hollywood may look like a glamorous town filled with beautiful celebrities, but the Red Hot Chili Peppers unmask the City of Angels in their new animated music video for “Sick Love” to show what ultimately lies beneath its shallow surface.
The Beth Jeans Houghton-directed video starts off with a young Australian girl who falls for the Hollywood image on TV. She then leaves her suburban lifestyle and flies to L.A. in hopes of living a lavish lifestyle, but then realizes not everything is as real as it seems.
As soon as the girl is in L.A., the video turns into a twisted and trippy juxtaposition between image and reality. News anchors start vomiting green bile on one another instead of reading the news, people at parties turn into monstrous villains, devils peer over everyone’s shoulders telling people what they want to hear, and even RHCP frontman Anthony Kiedis‘ head gets severed by a spider he became intimate with.
