Rani Jhansi flyover: 5 religious structures to be relocated

Sources said the North Delhi civic body has decided to relocate these structures on an alternate site.

Eight years after construction of the Rani Jhansi grade separator started, it is set to pick up pace with the Delhi government deciding to demolish and relocate five religious structures that fall in the way of the flyover. The grade separator is supposed to run between St Stephen’s Hospital and Filmistan in north Delhi.

Sources said the North Delhi civic body has decided to relocate these structures on an alternate site. Government officials and Delhi Police took stock of the hurdles between Rani Jhansi road and Kishanganj crossing at a meeting. “While other infrastructure falling in the right of way of the separator was removed, four temples and a mosque remained,” said the police report. Police told officials that the area between Rani Jhansi road and Jhandewalan is ‘’communally sensitive” and ‘’any kind of demolition of the religious structures may cause unrest among locals”.

Commissioner P K Gupta said 57 per cent work on the flyover has been completed. “Work is likely to be finished by 2018,” he said.
