NAGPUR: The movie ‘Nagpur Adhiveshan, Ek Sahal’, directed by Nilesh Jalamkar, has been cleared with an ‘A’ rating by the censor board, that too after numerous cuts. Vidarbha Connect organization plans to file a PIL in the matter and has said that cutting the statement related to ‘separate Vidarbha’ is an insult to its people. The organization is also going to request the audience to go and watch the movie with the entire family even though it has been given an adult rating.
The film stars celebrated actors like Makarand Anaspure, Ajinkya Dev, Mohan Joshi, Bharat Ganeshpure, Amol Tale and others.
The censor board has suggested many changes in the movie, alleged the director. “The movie is based on a realistic subject of Vidarbha and the problems faced by people in it. Mainly during the winter sessions, crores of rupees are ostensibly spent for the development of Vidarbha, which leads to no change in the ground situation because the backwardness persists and people still suffer,” said Jalamkar.
“The issues faced in the region are not given enough attention, and the movie just highlights them,” he said. The film is a satire and has a derisive tone as an attempt to creating awareness about the injustice to Vidarbha. Thus, the film is an honest attempt to bring out the overall backwardness of Vidarbha and create an awareness about it.
Only because the film mentions ‘separate Vidarbha’, the censor board has made an unjust decision of giving it an ‘A’ rating and has also suggested many cuts in it, claimed the director. The movie has no violence, neither any kind of scene that would cause it to be made an adult rated movie, he argued.
Since the movie ‘Udta Punjab’ faced a similar situation, the high court has passed a judgment that clearly states that unless given directives accordingly, the censor board does not have the right to cut or suggest edits in a film. Vidarbha Connect is going to use this judgement to challenge the ‘A’ rating for the movie.
