Holy Heart students excel in “Explorica”

Amritsar: Students of Holy Heart School participated in “Explorica” organised by Lovely Professional University, Jalandhar.



Amritsar: Students of Holy Heart School participated in “Explorica” organised by Lovely Professional University, Jalandhar. As many as 50 schools from across the state participated in the event in which Arshdeep Kaur and the team of Sarthak Dhawan, Snehdeep Kaur and Gurpreet Dhillon of Class X+II clinched first positions in extempore and quiz, respectively. They were awarded cash prize of Rs 5,000 each. Ashutosh of X+II bagged third position in the photography competition. He was also given a cash prize of Rs 2,000. School director Anjna Seth congratulated the winners and motivated them to keep participating in such informative and knowledgeable programmes.

Sports Day at Senior Study

The Senior Study II organised a Sports Day in which students of Classes VI, VII, and VIII participated with enthusiasm. Various events including relay and other races, long jump and basket ball were organised on the occasion to test the fitness level of students. Teachers also participated in all events. “Health benefits of regular exercise and physical activity are hard to ignore. Everyone can take advantage from exercise regardless of age or physical ability,” said Principal Vijay Mehra. “Such events motivate students,” said school vice-Principal Upasana Mehra.

IKU Asian Karate C’ship

Students of DAV Public School performed well in IKU Asian Karate Championship – 2016 held at Talkotra Stadium, New Delhi. Hiten Sharma, Vatsal Kapoor bagged gold and silver medals, respectively, in the under nine years category. The performance of the two budding karate champions was appreciated.

CBSE North Zone Shooting C’ship

Players of Spring Dale Senior School won four team silver medals in the CBSE North Zone Shooting Championship held at Mandi Gobindgarh. Four teams of the school, including under-14 boys’ and girls’, besides under-19 boys’ and girls’ participated in the event. As many as 700 students from different schools competed in the championship. Dr Kirat Sandhu Cheema, director, Spring Dale Senior School, and Sahiljit Singh Sandhu, managing trustee, Spring Dale Educational Society, expressed satisfaction over the students’ win. They also congratulated the winners.

GNDUInter-College Basketball Competition

Basketball team of BBK DAV College for Women, won GNDU Inter-College Basketball Championship held at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. College team defeated BUC College, Batala, HMV College, Jalandhar, HK College, Kapurthala, and SR Government College, Amritsar. Six players of the team — Amanbir Kaur, Shikha, Somi Kumari, Samriti, Shabnam and Sukhjinder Kaur — were selected for All-India Intervarsity Championship to be held in Bhubaneshwar (Odisha) from December 22 to 28. The winning team comprised Amanbir Kaur, Shikha, Somi Kumari, Samriti, Shabnam, Karanjeet Kaur, Akwinder Kaur, Sukhjinder Kaur, Gagandeep Kaur, Harjit Kaur and Gurpreet Kaur.

Child Khalsa contest at Harkrishan School

Sri Guru Harkrishan Senior Secondary Public School hosted a contest titled “Child Khalsa– 2016”, organised by Kes Sambhal Society here recently. The school is run under the aegis of Chief Khalsa Diwan Charitable Society. The chief motive behind the contest was the spiritual and mental ability test in which 38 children from various Sikh institutions participated. Harcharan Singh, chief secretary, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), attended the function as chief guest and Surinderjit Singh Pall, former Chief Commissioner, Income Tax, was the guest of honour on the occasion. School Principal, Dr Dharam Veer Singh, said the contestants had to qualify the screening test. In order to test the personality traits and hidden talent of the participants, various questions were asked by judges, he said. The winners of the contest were awarded cash prizes and certificates. Gurpartap Singh won the Child Khalsa-2016 Award. Bhavdeep Singh was first runners-up while Bakshish Kaur was the second runners-up. Manraj Singh bagged award for the best dress, Prabhsimran Singh for best turban and Guramanat Singh for best talent. — TNS
