ALLAHABAD: A meeting of the district unit of Welfare Party of India (WPI) was held on Sunday in which it was demanded to expedite legal proceedings and hearing of criminal cases against Bharatiya Janata Party leaders and karsevaks for demolishing Babri Masjid.
State general secretary of WPI Javed Mohammad said that Babri Masjid was demolished despite assurance given to the nation, to courts and the then national integration council.
The demolition was also a blow on the secular ethos of the country.
Javed said that the then Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao has in his public address from Doordarshan and radio promised that the mosque would be built on the same place where it was demolished but he too failed to deliver the promise.
He urged to speed up cases related to the title suits pending in court on the ownership of the site where the mosque existed.
District general secretary Amir Usmani said that communal political parties and their affiliates should not be allowed to vitiate the atmosphere by making announcements to built Ram temple on the place where Babri Masjid once stood.
The members have decided to hand over a memorandum addressed to President, to the district magistrate on Tuesday, the day on which the mosque was demolished.
