A superintendent for the Karval School District sexually assaulted two juveniles over several years while he was working as a teacher in Limon, and he hired one of them to babysit his children while he and his wife went to Broncos games, according to arrest documents.
An arrest warrant for 36-year-old Cody Kenneth Weber says he also provided alcohol to at least one of his alleged victims, and told one that if anyone ever found out about their relationship, “he would probably kill himself.”
The 26-page, heavily redacted warrant was filed Nov. 29. Weber was subsequently taken into custody and then released from the Lincoln County jail after posting $100,000 bail.
Court records show he faces seven felony counts in the case, all of them sexual assault on a child by a person in position of trust.
The alleged sexual assaults happened while Weber was employed as an agriculture education teacher by the Limon School District. Dave Marx, the Limon district’s superintendent, says Weber worked at the school system from August 2007 until June 30.
Marx said there were never complaints about Weber while he was working at the Limon School District.
One of Weber’s alleged victims told an officer she had had intercourse with Weber between five and 15 times, the warrant says.
The victims told investigators the sexual assaults ceased, respectively, in early 2015 and 2011.
Weber became the superintendent of the small Karval School District in July. An e-mail was sent to parents in the district telling them he was placed on administrative leave.
Karval is located 75 miles east of Colorado Springs and 45 miles south of Limon. It has a small PK-12 campus that serves a few dozen students.
Limon police began investigating the case on Nov. 2 before it was handed over to an investigator with the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
When a district attorney’s investigator interviewed Weber at his office in the Karval Public School building, Weber denied ever having a sexual relationship with the alleged victims, the warrant says.
“Unless you can have sex through a hug, there is absolutely no possibility of that,” he said, according to the warrant.
A message left Monday with Weber’s lawyer in Colorado Springs was not immediately returned.
