Absence of Internet server delays ration distribution

FARIDABAD: Though biometric machines have been installed at majority of the depots in the district, the absence of a network server has delayed online distribution of ration under the public distribution system (PDS).

Faridabad, December 4

Though biometric machines have been installed at majority of the depots in the district, the absence of a network server has delayed online distribution of ration under the public distribution system (PDS). It is learnt the National Informatics Centre is yet to provide Internet server for data storage.

Kushal Boora, District Food and Supply Controller (DFSC), said, “The biometric machines will function after they are connected to an Internet server that keeps a sales record. It was to be provided by the NIC.”

However, Vipin Gupta, in charge, NIC, claimed, “The decision to provide an Internet server has to be taken at the state level. We will work as per the directions.” — TNS
