Vijay Rupani eager to resolve PAAS demands: Deputy CM Nitin Patel

The Deputy CM and Ministers of State Pradeepsinh Jadeja and Nanu Vanani had held a six-hour-long meeting with 11 of Hardik’s representatives here on December 1 on the latter’s four demands.

The four demands include financial help and government jobs for the dependents of 14 Patidars who died during Patidar reservation agitation, action against persons responsible for police atrocity on Patidars during the agitation, formation of Patidar Commission and constitutional reservation for the community.

In an official release on Monday, Nitin Patel said that on the first three demands, the state government will show as much ‘positive attitude’ as possible.

Though, on the issue of OBC reservation for Patidars, the deputy CM said that during the meeting of December 1, it was mutually agreed that the PAAS conveners would give documentary evidence of OBC reservation (for Patidars) in other states to Gujarat government.

“However, till date, no such evidence has been produced by the (PAAS) conveners before the Home Minister. The state government believes that the work must be under progress by them (in this regard). The next date of meeting will be decided as soon as the details are received from them,” Patel said in the release.

Referring to certain statements by PAAS with reference to the December 1 meeting, Patel said that it was essential that both sides (PAAS and state government) maintain control.

To this, PAAS media convener Varun Patel said, “If the Gujarat government is saying that they do not have documents about reservation in other states, then it shows their talent. Let them officially (and directly) communicate this to us. We will then give them all those documents.”
