The Archaeological Survey of India has identified new 22 historical sites for declaring them as protected monuments of national importance.
The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) currently has 3686 historical monuments and archaeological sites declared protected as of National importance for which separate funds are allocated.
Among the monuments which are likely to be accorded status of monuments of national importance includes Janardana Temple and Vishnu temple (Visnugudi) in Kerala; Badarpur Fort, District Karimganj of Assam; Rock Painting at Chintakunta Muddanur Mandal, in Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh; Budhist Monastery at Lahaling, Himachal Pradesh; Rock Art site at Murgi, Leh; Trilochana Temple in Jammu & Kashmir; Navratana Garh Fort, Jharkahand; four Mughal Gardens Uttar Pradesh; Haveli of Agah Khan in Uttar Pradesh; Someshwar Mahadeva Temple Char, District Chitrakut, also in UP.
“The monuments were identified after ASI took up village to village survey for documenting and reporting ancient monuments and sites,” union culture minister Mahesh Sharma said.

5 Zimskhang Gongma along with village remains at Jammu & Kashmir
6 Ancient Caves Saspol/Gon-Nila-Phuk Meditition Caves Saspol at Leh-Laadakh, Jammu & Kashmir
7 Rock Art site Murgi, Leh-Laadakh at Jammu & Kashmir
8 Trilochana Temple at Jammu & Kashmir
9 Trisher Stupa along with adjusting remains and prehistoric site around Holy Lake (Slob Phan Rso), Leh-Laadakh at Jammu & Kashmir
10 Navratana Garh Fort at Jharkahand
11 Janardana Temple at Kerala
12 Vishnu Temple (Visnugudi) Nadavyal Sultanbatery Taluk, Wayanad at Kerala
