The news that Nokia is all set to make a comeback in the market is super, dooper exciting and we just can’t wait to see Nokia back in our hands. While once at the top of their game, the journey for Nokia has been turbulent in recent times. After being taken over by Microsoft, Nokia smartphones were re-branded as Microsoft Lumia devices and came with Windows. And while the phones did not really manage to catch the fancy of buyers as Nokia once did, the smartphones soon began to lose out on the market share once again. Although there were Windows smartphones loyalists, Android had been overtaking them all. It was Nokia’s initial stubbornness that led to the brand’s downfall and the decline continued as Microsoft soon sold off Nokia’s feature smartphones unit to HMD, an arm of Foxconn manufacturing.

It is HMD that is now all set to launch their newest Nokia device. The smartphone has been teased a lot and we have even seen image leaks of the device. Although there have been conflicting rumours regarding the specifications of the Nokia D1C as the smartphone is nicknamed, most accounts agree on there being 2 versions of the device. But it is still unclear whether Nokia D1C will be a mid-range device or a premium flagship phone. Although HMD was responsible for the feature phones arm of Nokia, the leaked images all suggest a smartphone and as the smartphone is a Nokia device, the stakes are pretty high as finally, after years, users are getting to see what they once had expected almost a decade ago. But then, there are still many challenges for Nokia, one of which is the late entry and the already tough competition out there.

However, Nokia does have a lot of hope this time around as the Nokia D1C is all set to launch soon enough, as early as Mobile World Congress 2017. Let’s see what will work for the brand: Nokia is back! And is all set to launch an Android smartphone soon

1. The final shift to Android: Right since the beginning, there was hope that Nokia would ditch their Symbian OS and shift instead to Android, thus bringing some of the best of both worlds in their smartphone. But then, unfortunately, we waited and waited but it never happened. However, with HMD, Nokia is finally taking the Android plunge. What’s more, HMD is said to be working very closely with Google meaning Android on Nokia could be completely customised for it. It does sound exciting and the expectation of the experience will draw users to Nokia once more.

2. The brand: Say what you want to, but Nokia still is a much, much loved brand in the market. It has the nostalgic value and considering HMD does not plan in taking away the Nokia name from the devices, it will definitely lead to more excitement. The rebirth of a brand is always great and with Nokia, it could potentially be the phoenix we have all dreamed of. Well, Nokia has given us great devices in the past and with the relaunch, there is bound to be excitement, atleast in India which had once been a loyal Nokia market.  More than 1 million Google accounts hacked by virus called Gooligan. Was your account one of them?

3. Competition: If we look at Nokia’s competition, instantly Samsung comes to mind. It was the success of Samsung that was partially responsible for Nokia’s downfall. But then, looking back at 2016, Samsung has not exactly had a great run either and after the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 fiasco, the brand is quite down. Although Samsung is still fighting and continues to be one of the top brands in the country, pitch it against a brand which once ruled hearts and had an almost flawless record and we can almost see Nokia grinning.

4. The value: Nokia smartphones have always been value-for-phone devices. Even their premium segment devices have been the best in the market with hardly any challenger. In terms of design, in terms of hardware and in terms of innovations – Nokia did it all in the past and we don;t see why, even with a different head, the body can’t functions just as smoothly. While Nokia’s pricing might also lead to making or breaking the brand once again, if priced right, the brand could definitely win a lot of laurels. How to transfer all your Whatsapp chats from old phone to new phone

5. China vs Nokia: While we all know the strongest competitors for Nokia in the premium segment, surprisingly, in the budget segment, it will be the Chinese brands that will give Nokia the toughest competition. The brands have managed to achieve a cult following in the country and for Nokia, in the budget segment, there is surely bound to be some tussle. But what Nokia has offered before – the impeccable hardware and smoothness of the device, could lead to a change in trend if the formula works it’s magic once more.

So, what do you think? Can Nokia win users back and be the giant it once was? Let us know in comments!
