Sanghiya Samajwadi Forum Nepal (SSFN) Chairman Upendra Yadav has remarked that Tarai region should be federated into provinces based on Indian-model of federalism.
Speaking at a party programme in Ganjabhawanipur on Monday, Chairman Yadav said, "We want provinces in Madhes that cannot be ruled by non-Madhesis." Yadav cited Indian modality of federal provinces where a Punjabi cannot rule in Bihar state.
"Just like India's Bihar police, Bihar court, Bihar administration, Bihar public service; we want Madhes police, Madhes court, Madhes administration and so on," said Chairman Yadav.
He claimed that the ongoing agitation in western Nepal was enticed by CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli. "When the state is preparing to grant rights to one community, is it good to organise protest from another community? Can this be the feature of a communist?" he questioned.
"When Oli was premier, he was not willing to grant us the rights. But now when another government has brought the constitution amendment bill, he started protesting the bill. What kind of discrimination is this?" he further said.
Chairman Yadav said Madhesis were oppressed for centuries and now the minority community wants equal participation in every entity of government.
"The discriminatory state governments never wanted to develop Tarai and now they are playing another game of preventing India, among other donor countries, from developing the southern plain," leader Yadav further alleged.
