Mumbai: Fashion industry in Bollywood has inspired almost every movie buff to wear at least one filmy outfit in his/her lifetime. And, Manish Malhotra is said to be the man behind this desire. He added a touch of magic with his iconic style and fashion designs.

It wouldn't be wrong to say that it is the dream of every showbiz personality to get dressed in a Manish Malhotra outfit. As the king of couture turns a year older today, here’s a look at his quintessential filmy dresses over a span of two decades.

1)      Kajol- Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge

From Simran’s white short skirt in Mere Khwabo Main Jo Aaye to teal coloured gown for Ruk Ja Dil Deewane and the stunning green lehanga in Mehandi Laga Ke Rakhna, Manish Malhotra made Kajol look elegant with western styled dresses and gorgeous traditional outfits.

2)      Urmila Matondkar- Rangeela

The 1995 hit movie was successful in setting a fashion trend of its uber-styled outfits. It was indeed a turning point for the birthday boy as Flimfare started a new category award to honour the designer.  Dresses styled by Manish in the movie were so voguish that even today they are a part of every girl’s wardrobe.

3)      Karisma Kapor and Madhuri Dixit- Dil Toh Pagal Hai

Manish reflected shades of Indian women through his western and traditional attires. With a combination of style and class, Karisma Kapoor sizzled in mini and sporty outfits. While Madhuri Dixit’s salwar kameez gained popularity with its transparent designed kurtas and chiffon duppatas.

4)      Sushmita Sen- Main Hoon Na

Didn’t we all drool over Sushmita’s 70s styled chiffon esthetic sarees? Manish brought a variation in the ways Indian film heroines wear saarees with this flick. Vibrant patterns and bright colors with knotted sleeveless blouses made every Indian girl long for saree like Ms Chandini!

5)      Kajol- Fanaa

Wearing short kurtas on long ethnic-traditional skirts instantly gained popularity after 'Fanaa' was released. Manish made Kajol look like an eternal beauty by adding few drops of finely printed Kashmiri styled garments. Zooni aced the Kashmiri look with pherans, headscarfs and minimal jewellery in the second half of the movie

6)      Deepika Padukone- Om Shanti Om

Deepika, who made her debut with Om Shanti Om, rocked in her Pink outfit as Shantipriya.  Only a super talented designer like Manish could have done justice through his designs to a movie that was set across two different eras. Costuming was at its best in the song Dhoom Tana, where Manish created the iconic looks of yesteryear’s heroines.

7)      Kareena Kapoor Khan- Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu

Manish had done a fabulous job for Kareena’s character Riana who is a hairstylist. Kareena’s messy yet chic outfits (short skirts, layered tops) combined with leather jackets and boots gave us all serious wardrobe goals.

8)      Alia Bhatt- Student Of The Year

Alia Bhatt’s character Shenaya nails the high-end stylish looks. Be it her red prom dress or beautiful lehanga in Radha Teri Chunri or the hospital wear- salwar kameez, Manish made Shenaya’s wardrobe a dream of every teenage girl.

9)    Anushka Sharma and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan- Ae Dil Hai Mushki

It became impossible to look away from both the heroines of the movie. Manish gave a perfect indo-western look to Anushka who is seen wearing long kaftan styled kurtis with denim jeans. Anushka looks marvelous in her 17 kg wedding lehanga. Meanwhile, Aishwarya sizzels in her black sequin dress that wears in the club. She looks incredibly classy with ripped jeans, simple tops and fancy winter coats!
