Ex-corporate big guns launch Algarve cycling experience

THREE North West corporate high flyers have left their jobs to create “the ultimate cycling experience” by launching Flyingeese.

The trio are Jeff Jones, former head of advisory at BDO, John O’Brien ex-head of KPMG’s Transaction Services group and Jen Smith, who was head of advisory marketing at BDO.

The team say they dedicated a lot of time thinking about what makes the perfect cycling trip, and then they made it happen.

Small groups of no more than eight cyclists, of similar abilities, are supported with former GB international cyclists over five or six days in the Algarve’s Mochique Mountains.

Riders are supported by personal nutrition plans, performance coaches, support vehicles and out of the saddle, riders unwind in private villas.

Jones said: “People often ask us what makes Flyingeese different, to be honest we didn’t worry about what the competition was doing when we were setting up.

“Our goal is simple – create the cycling experience that we have always wanted and take it from there. We believe that the Algarve offers an even better experience than the hugely popular, traditional cycling locations such as Mallorca and Etape. And it is time for a change.”

Smith added: “Imagine having the pro-level experience – support vehicles with you when you’re out on the road so hydration and fuel are sorted, and mechanical or medical issues are dealt with on the spot.

“To have a nutritionist working with you to maximise your performance. And imagine if – along with a few close friends or colleagues, maybe – you had a couple of pro riders along with you, always looking to see how they can help you get better at all of this, encouraging you up the climbs, laughing with you down the descents.”
