VADODARA: A 28-year-old man died of electrocution in Sama on Sunday afternoon. Rakesh Janakraj, who works in a private company, got an electric shock when he tried to move a bunch of cables of electricity and cable television that were lying in his residential society. On touching the cables, a blast was heard and Janakraj was found lying on the ground due to the shock.
While residents of the society claimed that Janakraj died as the GVK Emergency Management and Research Institute (EMRI) 108 ambulance failed to reach on time, GVK EMRI officials said that an ambulance was already dispatched but the residents informed them that there was no need of the service.

Sadanand Rai, Janakraj’s friend and a resident of the society called 108 at around 1.45pm and again at 2.15pm as the ambulance had not reached. But, by then Janakraj had succumbed to injuries. He added that he called the emergency helpline again to register the complaint about their negligence but initially they refused to take his complaint and later said that his complaint has been registered by them.
“An ambulance from Sama which was four km from the spot of the incident was already dispatched. But by the time the ambulance could reach the spot, a caller had informed the driver that they were taking the victim to hospital through an auto,” said an GVK EMRI official.
Meanwhile, other residents of the society also called Madhya Gujarat Vij Company Limited (MGVCL) authorities and the cable television operator to complain about the cables that were lying unattended in the society. However, both the cable operator and the MGVCL workers blamed each other for the incident.
