: Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal said the 2017 assembly polls would be contested by the SAD-BJP alliance on the plank of development. He said opposition parties were “dumbstruck by the matchless development of Punjab”, and they did not have any answer for development carried out by the SAD-BJP government.
Sukhbir was addressing party workers in Faridkot on Sunday in connection with the SAD’s ‘Pani Bachao Punjab Bachao’ (Save Water Save Punjab) rally to be held on December 8 near Moga.
Faridkot MLA Deep Malhotra, who has been denied ticket from the constituency, did not attend the event.
Sukhbir said AAP would cease to exist after the assembly elections. He said AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal had isolated Punjabi leaders and some AAP volunteers had already accused the party of selling tickets. He said that the rebellion mounted by volunteers in AAP was a clear indicator of the leadership of Kejriwal being challenged from within the party. He said that people had already tried Punjab Congress president Capt Amarinder Singh. “Congress is now struggling for survival in the wake of successive electoral defeats,” he said.
