PC Shekar’s musical film Raaga springs quite the surprise with its first look. For starters, it reveals Mitra, the film’s producer as its hero as well.
The movie that almost plays out like a painting in motion notes has another interesting artistic discovery for Mitra with the project offering him an opportunity to play the role of a blind man. He is paired opposite
Bhama in the movie.
A- 105-films old, Mitra has taken up the challenging role and definitely sees promise with the movie, which he is also producing.
Interestingly, the film’s theme bears a retro look and appears like a painting in motion on the screen.
All that is seen in the picture is created in a set that was erected in a 30-acre farmhouse managed by Mitra, who is a hotelier too. Guna, the art director of the film, a well known painter has done the art work for the project.
Every shot is supposed to looklike a painting which is another point of interest of the movie - Raaga. The film’s story takes its course through an imaginary world.
The team specifies that the movie does not capture an era or place in particular, but is instead presented like a novel that tells the tales of an imaginary world.
“Every accessory used goes the retro way and that includes vintage cars and shows costumes created by Suruchi,” reveals the
director. “The advantage of this film is that its has cinematographer
Vaidy on board, who is also a painter. Though visually we have blind characters, the film is made colourful with its picturisation, for which he has used different pattern and shades,” he says.
Raaga, a story by Shekar explores love beyond its initial attraction and physical allure and talks of a connection between minds. The director explains that a connection between two minds is the acme of emotional bonds. “More than looking at a person physically and economically, when two minds meet, it depicts true love. Since humans connect love with music, film Raaga is kept musical and that also matches the title,” says Shekar.
The team has completed 70 per cent of the film and is left with eight days of talkie portions, which they plan to start from next week. The team is planning for a Feburary release.
