Matinee idols worshiped as gods, devotees caught in release-day frenzy, milk baths and full-on madness - if you thought this doesn’t happen in Kerala you are wrong. Zooming into the life of a hardcore Vijay fan is Pokkiri Simon, Jijo Antony’s next starring Sunny Wayne in the lead. “The film will be an outright mainstream entertainer and it’s conceived with the mass flavour that defines Vijay films. Pokkiri is considered a landmark film in Vijay’s career and our hero gets his name from that film.,” says Dr K Ambadi IAS, scenarist of the film.

The film comes with a tagline ‘oru kadutha aradhakan’, and Dr Ambadi says original Vijay fans from across Kerala will be part of the film. “The film is definitely inspired by real-life individuals who live for the actor’s next release. They are the first-day-first-show crowd who celebrate every shot of their favourite star. Pokkiri Simon tries to explore their lives.”
Dr Ambady says though the film is set against the backdrop of steadfast star worship, it will be easy for Malayalis to relate to it. “Vijay’s range of influence is unbelievable. I have spoken to many Malayalis who are now keeping their fingers crossed for Bhairava, Vijay’s next film.
Pokkiri Simon will be produced by Krishnan Sethukumar under the banner of Sreehari Films and Thiruvananthapuram will be the location.
