'Moonlight' named best film by Los Angeles critics' group
Moonlight is enjoying another moment in the awards-season spotlight.
The coming-of-age art-house film about a gay African-American youth has been named best picture by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association. The movie also earned LAFCA awards for best director (Barry Jenkins), supporting actor (Mahershala Ali) and cinematography (James Laxton). It bested runner-up La La Land after the Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling musical was named best film by New York Film Critics Circle and received 12 nominations for Critics' Choice Awards.
