Bhoomi pujan in mela area
Allahabad: Bhoomi puja was held on Sunday at Reserve Police Lines to be set up in the Magh Mela area.
The rituals were conducted by senior superintendent of police Shalabh Mathur. The 42-day mela will commence from January 12.
Deputy superintendent of police (Magh Mela) Ganesh Saha told TOI that as many as 12 police stations and 34 police outposts will be set up on the mela campus.
He added that elaborate security arrangements would be made for devotees and pilgrims arriving at the banks of Ganga to take holy dips during the pious month of Magh.
Around 3,000 policemen would be deployed in and around mela campus. Apart from civil police, personnel from ATS, STF, PAC and RAF would be deployed.
The authorities would set up a control room on the mela premises, and all the activities would be monitored from the Reserve Police Lines in the mela area. The police administration is expecting a crowd of 30 to 80 lakh on the auspicious bathing days.
